The Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC), then known as the East Pakistan Agricultural Development Corporation, was established by the Agriculture Development Corporation Ordinance, 1971 (EP Ordinance XXXVII, 1971). In 1975, BADC was renamed as Bangladesh Agricultural Ingredients Supply and Services Corporation (BAISSC) as it was considered different from other development institutions of the government in the field of agriculture. But in 1986, the name of BAISSC was changed to BADC. Although BADC is based in Dhaka city as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Agriculture, its range of services extends to the whole of Bangladesh. Field Offices up to Upazila level, and in some cases even in more remote areas there is an extensive network of offices. The General and Administrative Directions of the Corporation and the power to make decisions on other matters are vested in the Board of Directors headed by the Chairman. The organizational structure of the corporation consists of 5 wings. These are: seed and horticulture, micro-irrigation, fertilizer management, finance and administration. The basic tasks assigned to BADC are: Sustainable management of production, collection (purchase), transportation, storage and distribution of agricultural inputs throughout Bangladesh and creation of irrigation facilities for farmers through the use of essential agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers and use of surface and ground water. To do. At BADC, professionals from different professions like agriculture, engineering, economics, management etc. are working together. The total number of posts sanctioned was 25,451. But in the early 90's, manpower was reduced due to withdrawal of general management activities from BADC and privatization of irrigation activities and normal and voluntary retirement. The Corporation was reorganized in 1999 through a Gazette Notification (published in the Bangladesh Gazette on November 22, 1999) and some new activities were introduced on quality seed production and irrigation. The BADC provides financial assistance through new projects and programs to create opportunities for surface water use in irrigation, import of fertilizers through G2G system, strengthening of seed production activities, seed breeding of high yielding varieties and increase in production of various adverse tolerant varieties.
